Record Plant is known for being one of the most legendary studios in the music business. Did you know that Jeff Barnes, LARS alumnus, worked his way up from being an intern, to a studio hand and most recently became the President of the iconic studio?
In this candid conversation, Jeff Barnes chats with Director of Alumni Relations Joe Byron, about his time at The LA Recording School, how he got his first break in the music world, and how he became one of the most respected, and ultimate self-starters in the recording industry.

Founded in 1968, Record Plant is best known for being the studio that has created more hits and Grammy-nominated projects than any other studio. Several LARS alumni have gone on to work on multi-Grammy winning and Grammy-nominated projects that were recorded at Record Plant.

Alumnus and Emmy-nominated comedy writer/director Matt Mazany is back and this time he’s breaking down some of his funniest scripts beat by beat! We’ll learn how some of Matt’s most popular sketches went from script to video and everything in between.

We’ve heard it all before, money makes the world go round. But where do you get the money? One increasingly popular avenue for raising the capital to start your dream project is crowdfunding. Alumnus Rylend Grant has assembled a panel of creative professionals who have ran successful film and comic project crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter to teach you what works and what doesn’t. Learn the fundamentals of the platform and how to make the most of it.
Come mix, mingle & vibe out with students, alumni and fellow artists as we bring you our second ever Virtual Paint Jam! This interactive live art battle will feature submissions from the country’s hottest street artists along with our incredibly talented students & alumni.
FAME WEEK | BRING THE BEAT: WITH LEON “KWIKSTIKS” KITTRELL II
The beat breakdown is one of the most important elements of a hit song— in this event we invite performing artist Leon Kittrell II to breakdown famous beats over the years, as well as a few student submitted songs.
Infused with fun games like “Guess the Groove”, Leon will take us on a musical journey where we strip away the vocals and other instruments and focus solely on the drums & percussion of some of today’s biggest hits.
About Leon:
Leon G. Kittrell II, started playing drums at the very early age of two years old. Being influenced by his father and many other drummers, he has taken a path that spans him across many genre. He is totally self-taught and has never had a lesson. He has been touring for the last 15 years. Starting out his career with his first major gig in the hip hop world with Travis Porter, he has crossed all genre and boundaries as a drummer to date. After being given the nickname “Kwikstiks” by Bo Diddley, Leon has been blazing up the industry from stages to studios working with the best.
