January 2022 Term for Campus Students

The L.A. Film School will remain remote through the January term with the exception of selected hands-on, in-person courses (see below). We know you are excited to get back to a more normalized campus class structure. We too are also eager to have all students on campus. In the meantime, please carefully read over the program updates below currently in effect for January.

Additionally, for the courses that require hands-on training components, we will reinstate our limited, in-person instruction within select courses and academic experiences (detailed below) beginning January 03, 2022. It is important to remember that while we are delaying our full reopening,  our Vaccination Choice policy begins January 03  and all students, faculty, staff and pre-approved guests scheduled to be on campus, are required to provide proof of vaccination or a weekly negative COVID test to be approved to be on campus.  LAFS’s Vaccination Choice Policy and FAQs are located here.

Given the current surge of positive COVID-19 cases within our county propelled by the Omicron variant, it is necessary that we deliver the majority of our educational offerings in remote format for the first two weeks of the January 2022 term.  

Additionally, for the courses that require hands-on training components, we will reinstate our limited, in-person instruction within select courses and academic experiences (detailed below) beginning January 03, 2022. Dear Student,  

With a spirit of optimism and gratitude, we announce that, in accordance with L.A. County guidelines, The Los Angeles Film School will continue to increase our offering of on-campus production and hands-on classes and labs for the June 2021 term.   

Your Program Director or Instructor will notify you via your school email account if you are registered for a course that will have on-campus production and hands-on classes and labs or studio access. You can see below for a list of the courses that will have campus accessibility. 

Participation in the selected class or lab sessions on campus is optional. If you prefer to remain remote for the June term, you should contact your Academic Advising Coach to discuss your course options.  

Upon review of recommendations and operational plans from the Center for Disease Control Prevention (CDC) and other governmental and higher education resources, the school has developed a “Return-To-Campus” plan. The school has adopted health and safety policies and procedures that all faculty, staff, and students will be required to follow. The policies and procedures are available here.  You must confirm your agreement to abide by them in advance of resuming any campus activities.  

Our intention is to continue to expand the number of on-campus labs and academic activities while remaining compliant with the guidelines on all points. Please note that you should still access all administrative and auxiliary services remotely as you will not be allowed on campus unless you are attending a scheduled class or lab.  We will monitor progress and provide an update as the June term progresses.

The Los Angeles Film School will start offering a limited number of on-campus production and hands-on classes and labs beginning in the April 2021 term. If you wish to continue taking your courses remotely, you will have the option to do so for at least the next six months.   

Your Program Director or Instructor will notify you via your school email account if you are registered for a course that will have on-campus production and hands-on classes and labs or studio access (see below).

The Los Angeles Film School is not yet permitted to fully open. The School chose courses for this initial step based upon those courses that are essential for students nearing their graduation who are in need of hands-on technical training to complete their academic requirements.

Latest Information on Rapid/PCR Testing on Ivar:

1. Effective Thursday, February 3rd, the Hours of Operation are changing to 8 AM – 4 PM.

2. Both Rapid tests and PCR tests are being performed, so it may take longer than originally expected.

WALK-UP SIDE-WALK COVID TESTING

Location: Ivar (between Sunset and Selma)
Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday, from 8 AM to 4 PM
Test Expiration Date: Test results are valid for 5 days, from the day of testing

Plum Testing’s Process: 

1. You will need to park your car and then walk over to Ivar (between Sunset and Selma).

2. Prior to walking up for your test, complete and submit this [Form Here].

a. The video is available [Watch Video Here]. Please complete and submit the attached form before driving up for your test.

b. To fill out the form:

i. The first page is where you submit your personal information, upload your drivers’ license and sign. This information is confidential it is not sold or seen by anyone other than those processing your test.

ii. The second page asks if you have insurance. If you do have insurance, please upload a copy of your insurance ID card and click submit.

iii. Your Form is now complete.

3. The test will be monitored and managed by a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).

4. Once you take the test, please leave the area to wait for your test result.

5. When the result is received, the CNA will send you your result via email, the average wait time is 7 to 15 minutes. 

The L.A. Film School Process:

6. With a negative result, please UPLOAD your result to the Student Connect Site.

7. The test result will be approved, and you will have access to the campus.

8. Should your test be positive, please return home and call your instructor.

For those of you that have been fully Vaccinated, you do not need to do weekly testing. Though, please upload your Proof of Vaccination Card to the Student Connect Site before going to Campus. Further information is provided to you via your LAFS email and the Student Connect Site.

Other testing Sites: Two of the best options are through LA County and Walgreens.
    1. LA County 
      • PCR test detects the virus that causes COVID-19.
      • 3 types of tests are being offered: nose, mouth and throat.
      • It typically takes between 24 to 48 hours to receive your test results. You will be notified by email, text, phone call, and in some cases by mail, depending on the site. It is very important that you provide accurate and complete information when registering. LA County will use this information to contact you with your test results.

2. Walgreens

      • There are two labs and the turnaround time on the test results depends on location and the lab used.
      • 24 to 48-hour turnaround to receive your test results.

To expedite the process, please submit this form in advance of arriving to campus and note the 6-digit number you receive. NEW: With the surge in testing around the country, we inevitably expect delays in the turnaround time of our results. Please be aware that your test results taken on Friday could come back as late as Tuesday or even Wednesday of next week. We have terrific news!  Starting this coming Monday, January 31, 2022, side-walk walk-up RAPID testing will be available for Los Angeles Film School at the corner of Ivar and Selma. This testing is open to the public and is available to you and your families. These testing services will be operated and provided by Plum Testing.

PLEASE NOTE: The drive-thru testing on the 6353 rooftop will no longer be offered.

Hello LAFS Family,

This is a friendly reminder of our scheduled weekly testing site if you plan to work or take class on campus. This will occur every Friday until further notice.

Please note that the on-site testing will only be performed on the B2 rooftop with drive-thru and walkups. We will notify you via email if anything changes.

Next Testing Date: Friday, January 14, 2022

Hours of Operation: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Location: 6353 Rooftop parking located on IVAR St. Then entrance is on Ivar at the corner of Ivar and Selma.

Update: On-site testing will only be performed on the B2 Rooftop with drive thru and walkups.

If you are coming to campus just to get tested:

    • Drive thru testing will now be available on the rooftop parking at 6353 Sunset Blvd. 

    • If you are not driving, access to the rooftop parking will be on Sunset Blvd.  Signs will be posted outside the main lobby entrance with directions to the rooftop testing site.

    • To speed up the process, use the link below to the online form that must be completed and submitted electronically before you can take the test:

    • Please record the number you receive after you submit your form for your first time. This is your Patient ID #. In the future, just enter your Patient ID number to submit the form and take the test.

    • Test Link Site

    • This is a PCR COVID-19 test. You will receive the results in 24-48 hours via email.

    • Once you are tested, you will be expected to leave the campus.
    • Once you receive a negative test result, please upload it to the Staff Test Result Portal found site on LAFS CONNECT.
    • If it is a positive result, please contact your direct manager. 

If you are coming to campus to work and want to get tested:

    • If you are already approved to be on campus, please check-in as you normally would by completing the attestation, temp check and badge in to get your campus wristband.

    • If you are not already approved to be on campus, before coming to campus, you must upload, either a vaccination record showing you are fully vaccinated, or a negative test result taken within the last 72 hours to the Test Result Portal site on LAFS CONNECTAcceptable test results must have your name and the date of test visible.

    • Once you have checked-in and are cleared to be on campus, you can go to the rooftop parking at 6353 to get tested during the hours of operation listed above. 

    • To speed up the process, use the link below to the online form that must be completed and submitted electronically before you can take the test: 

    • Please record the number you receive after you submit your form for the first timeThis is your Patient ID #. In the future, just enter your Patient ID number to submit the form and take the test.

    • This is a PCR COVID-19 test. You will receive the results in 24-48 hours via email.

This form will be open for submissions after 10 PM tonight, 1/20/22. 

How to fill out your form before you arrive:

      1. The first page is where you submit your personal information, upload your drivers’ license and sign. This information is confidential it is not sold or seen by anyone other than those processing your test.

      2. The second page asks if you have insurance. If you do have insurance, please upload a copy of your insurance ID card and click submit.

      3. Your form is now complete.

Hello ~ We are hoping for a wonderful turnout of employees and students to take advantage of our on-site COVID-19 testing initiative beginning this January. We had a great response of appreciation thus far to our on-campus testing site, and have an important update about this Friday, January 7th.  The changes discussed here are for January 7, 2022, ONLY.

Date: January 7, 2022

Hours of Operation:  8:30 AM to 12:00 PM

Location:

    • 6353 Rooftop parking located on IVAR St. Then entrance in on Ivar at the Southeast corner Ivar and Selma).
    • Update: On-site testing will not be available at 6690 as initially communicated.

If you are coming to campus just to get tested:

    • Drive thru testing will now be available on the rooftop parking at 6353 Sunset Blvd. 
    • If you are not driving, access to the rooftop parking will be on Sunset Blvd.  Signs will be posted outside the main lobby entrance with directions to the rooftop testing site.
    • To speed up the process, use the link below to the online form that must be completed and submitted electronically before you can take the test:
    • This is a PCR COVID-19 test.  You will receive the results in 24-48 hours via email.
    • Once you are tested, you will be expected to leave the campus.
    • Once you receive a negative test result, please upload it to the Staff Test Result Portal found site on LAFS CONNECT.
    • If it is a positive result, please contact your direct manager.

    • If you are already approved to be on campus, please check-in as you normally would by completing the attestation, temp check and badge in to get your campus wristband.
    • If you are not already approved to be on campus, before coming to campus, you must upload, either a vaccination record showing you are fully vaccinated, or a negative test result taken within the last 72 hours to the Test Result Portal site on LAFS CONNECT. Acceptable test results must have your name and the date of test visible.
    • Once you have checked-in and are cleared to be on campus, you can go to the rooftop parking at 6353 to get tested during the hours of operation listed above.

Per Tammy’s email on 12/28/21, our Choice Vaccination Policy goes into effect on January 3, 2022.  We are very happy to announce that LAFS will provide weekly on-site testing every Thursday and Friday, beginning Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. This is a PCR test and results will be sent electronically to you within 24-48 hours that you can upload into the confidential Test Result portal on LAFS Connect. 

In the meantime, whether you are scheduled to work or not, you can come in and get tested on Friday, January 7, during the times and at the locations below, to receive and upload your test results in time for to be on campus Monday, January 10.  Thereafter, you can be tested on Thursday or Friday for the following week.  Please remember to complete the Daily Attestation (see link below) prior to arriving on campus.

FSA – Mid-Year Changes 2021

Hello ~ We are excited to announce that we have implemented some valuable changes to our FSA Plan(s) as per the COVID-19 Relief Bills (a.k.a., the Consolidated Appropriations Act and American Rescue Plan Act). Please read further to learn what is available under each FSA plan for the plan year 2021.

An overview of the changes follows below:

      • Increased 2021 Contribution Limit for Dependent Care FSA
      • Extended Grace Period to 12 months (HFSA & DCFSA)
      • Unrestricted Midyear Election & Enrollment Changes (HFSA & DCFSA)
      • Dependent Age Limit Increased to 14 (DCFSA)
      • Post-Termination Reimbursements (HFSA)

      4. HR will see that your changes are entered into the Benefit Portal in PlanSource which will then be integrated with your Payroll account.
